Moisture & rain
Moisture protection
How to protect fur from moisture and what to do when it gets wet
Prevention is key
The best protection against moisture is prevention. Watch the weather forecast and avoid wearing fur on rainy days.
- Take an umbrella when the weather is uncertain
- In heavy rain or storms, choose a different coat
- Light raindrops will not harm fur much
What to do when the coat gets wet
- Shake off excess water. Right after coming home, gently shake the coat to remove water droplets from the fur.
- Dab with a cloth. Use a soft cotton cloth to gently dry the surface — do not rub, only press.
- Hang on a wide hanger. Let it hang freely in a well-ventilated, cool room (not the bathroom).
- Let it dry naturally. Drying may take 12–24 hours. Never use a hairdryer, radiator or any other heat source.
- Comb after drying. Use a special fur comb in the direction of the fur to restore its original look.
What to NEVER do
❌ Do not dry with heat
No hairdryer, radiator, fireplace or direct sun. Heat bakes the leather and the fur stiffens.
❌ Do not cover with plastic
A wet coat in a plastic cover starts to mould within 24 hours.
❌ Do not store while wet
Damp fur in a wardrobe will lose its shape and may smell unpleasant.
Heavily soaked coat
If your coat is thoroughly soaked (heavy rain, hours of snow), it is better to entrust it immediately to a professional fur cleaner. They will dry and treat it properly so it keeps its original quality.
Tip: After the season, have your coat professionally impregnated — the impregnation layer reduces moisture absorption on future trips.
