Winter care

Winter care

How to care for your fur coat during winter months and wearing

Wearing in winter

Snow and frost

Fur is naturally resistant to frost and snow but requires proper care.

  • After coming home, shake the coat to remove snow
  • Leave it hanging freely on a hanger so it dries naturally
  • NEVER dry near a radiator, fireplace or with a hairdryer
  • Once dry, comb the fur with a special comb

Indoor heat

Avoid prolonged stays in overheated spaces.

Tip: When entering a shop, restaurant or other warm building, prefer to leave the coat in the cloakroom. Constant high temperatures dry the natural oils in fur.

Windy days

Strong wind can tangle long fur. After a windy day, thoroughly comb the coat to prevent permanently tangled spots.

Daily winter care

Morning — before leaving

  1. Check the coat is dry (if it was wet the previous day)
  2. Gently shake it to straighten the hairs
  3. Apply perfume and cosmetics BEFORE putting on the coat

Evening — after returning

  1. Shake the coat outside or by an open window
  2. Remove snow or water droplets with a cotton cloth
  3. Hang on a wide hanger with enough space around
  4. Let it air in a cool, dry room (not the bathroom!)

Once a week

  • Thoroughly comb the fur with a special comb
  • Check buttons, zippers and the lining
  • Air for 2–3 hours on a shaded balcony

Specific winter situations

Wet snow and rain

Wet snow and rain are harder on fur than dry snow. Proceed the same way but pay more attention to drying.

Winter sun

Even winter sun can bleach fur. On long sunny outings stay in the shade or cover the coat partially with a scarf.

Salt and road chemicals

Winter road maintenance uses salt and chemicals that may dirty the lower part of the coat.

Solution: Regularly check the lower section. Remove salt with a damp cloth and let it dry. For heavier soiling visit a fur cleaner.

Common winter mistakes

❌ Drying on a radiator

The most common mistake. Heat literally bakes the fur and the leather stiffens.

❌ Storing in a plastic bag

Even in winter, fur needs to breathe. Never store it in a plastic cover.

❌ Ignoring moisture

If you do not dry the coat properly, it may start to smell or even develop mould.
